Van Helsing

Good heavens it's been ages since i last posted. Lots have been going on but most importantly it has been months since I was able to get any movie passes...I was dying!!! But the dry spell movie - pass - wise ended and here I am writing about Van Helsing.

First let's getting the drooling out of the way regarding eye candy Hugh Jackman! *drool* *drool*

Overall the movie was fine...storyline was fairly consistent and kept the movie rolling along. The effects were amazing! From Dr. Frankenstein's castle to the variety of monsters, you couldn't ask for better CGI. It was worth seeing on the big screen but I wouldn't pay full price for it...go to a bargain matinee or something.

My main problems with the movie were 1) I'm trying really hard to like Kate Beckinsale's character but that accent was atrocious! Who does she think she's fooling?? 2) Overall the storyline was fine but totally predictable...you can guess for example what happened to the werewolf or how to kill Dracula way before they tell you. 3)The weapons that Van Helsing uses...I didn't think the late 1800's were so advanced that they'd be able to provide a grappling gun that seems to shoot farther then anything even batman owns! And the blantant rip-off of James Bond! I kept expecting M to walk in any moment or Miss Moneypenny to show up. *rolls eyes*

But Hugh Jackman makes up for alot of it...he's so convincing as an action hero *grin* And of course the gratuitous shirtless scenes helped alot! Not to mention a surprising appearance by David Wenham who played Faramir from The Lord of the Rings triology. He plays the sidekick/comedic relief role and is quite good, he even has a line that could very well be a catch phrase given the right situation.

For the major movie buffs who care about actors in smaller roles, Robbie Coltrane from the Harry Potter movies makes an appearance as Mr. Hyde. Originally I thought it was completely CGI but when the credits rolled I caught sight of his name, much to my surprise.

So that's my opinion, wanted or not: worth seeing on the big screen but not at full admission price.
